Our History

Bregal Partnership

In 2022, PUR and Bregal Investments announced a strategic partnership to accelerate our growth and continue scaling our insetting projects worldwide. This investment will support our efforts to address the global financing gap for restoring nature and increasing biodiversity — working together to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions, while generating environmental and societal benefits.

Launching our first regenerative project in Australia

In collaboration with Burberry and Fox & Lillie, PUR launches its first regenerative agriculture project in Australia. Additionally, our agroforestry program with Nespresso becomes the largest consolidated insetting project in PUR’s history — expanding to six of Nespresso’s sourcing countries, with the goal of planting 15.5 million trees by 2025.

10 Million Trees Planted and GAP Implementation

In our company’s 10th year, we achieved a new milestone: 10 million trees planted worldwide! We also launched an important new project, designing and implementing Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) across coffee and vanilla commodities.

PUR Obtains B Corp Certification

2016 was a year of several notable accomplishments for PUR. We obtained B Corp Certification, implemented a marine ecosystem restoration project in Indonesia, and received the international Convergences Award for our Biocorredor Martin Sagrado conservation project in Peru — which became part of the UNESCO World Network of Biosphere Reserves.

Implementing Long-Term Insetting Projects with Nespresso

Nespresso implements an insetting program with PUR for its global coffee supply chains, supported by the International Platform for Insetting (IPI) with multiple partners.

PUR Reaches 2 Million Trees Planted and 317,000 Hectares Conserved

We launched new agroforestry projects in Asia and Africa, including PUR Farm in Thailand — an experimental three-hectare agroecology project. In the same year, our Alto Huayabamba project in Peru received VCS validation, with 2 million trees planted and 317,000 hectares conserved.

Founded in 2008 by Tristan Lecomte

PUR is established as a social business after founder Tristan Lecomte spends time working with small-scale farmers in Africa, Asia, and South America — designing insetting projects and planting trees to restore water and soil health, increase biodiversity and crop resilience, and mitigate the impacts of climate change.
