About Thamma Raksa

Thamma Raksa — which means “Nature is the Remedy“ in Thai — is an agroforestry project with smallholder rice and rubber farmers in the Isaan region of Thailand.

Since 2011, it seeks to address the root causes of deforesration, habitat degradation ans low livelihoods by planting native and naturalized tree species generating livelihood, water and biodiversity benefits.

Overview

The project focuses on delivering trees to farmers and providing training on topics such as tree care, pest management, and sustainable pruning techniques. In addition, community benefit activities have been designed to foster long-term community involvement in the project.

These include:

Income diversification: beekeeping, processing non-timber products

Female empowerment: bookkeeping training, family gardens and community composting

Water access: building water catchment and irrigation units

Soil health: mushroom farming, vermiculture

Drawing on its extensive experience in the Isaan region and in carbon certifications, PUR is exploring potential partnerships to support the implementation, certification, and long-term monitoring of this project.
